Site: 14,000 sf
The Battery Landing design plan is a one-story, translucent gateway where visitors will begin their immersive trip to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Located in Battery Park at the southern end of Manhattan, the 14,000 sf building sits atop a 60 by 240 foot floating barge. In addition to providing a necessary security function before arriving at the historic landmarks, the landing pier is a comfortable waiting area where up to 2,000 visitors daily wait for departing ferries. By replacing windowless waiting rooms with expansive glass walls, visitors enjoy spectacular views across the harbor and neighbors no longer look out upon obscured settings.
