Hornblower Alcatraz Landing

San Francisco, CA

Site: 6,000 sf
Sustainable Features: LEED-NC Silver (proposed)

Located at Pier 33, Alcatraz Landing is a competition-winning plan for the landside facilities of Alcatraz Cruises headquarters as administered by The National Park Service. A creatively designed small-scale Alcatraz Island lighthouse marks the entry into the main visitor plaza from the Embarcadero. The focal point of the plaza will be a model of the island where visitors can view and orient themselves to the infamous ‘Rock’ prior to the tour. The plaza will act as a central hub where all functional elements can occur, including shuttle bus drop-off, ticketing, boat arrival and departure areas, photo sales, and outdoor dining. The Pier 33 shed will contain an exhibit area where all visitors and passersby can view displays and obtain audio tours of the history of Alcatraz Island.
